The Oxcart Parade
Atenas, like San Ramon, once more has
an annual Oxcart Parade/Festival, complete with foods and treats
and craft sales, and dance demos by the local grade school kids.
There were clowns on stilts, and many handsome pairs of matched
oxen, trailing the ever-colorfully-painted oxcarts with
hand-crafted wooden wheels mounted usually on hardwood axles of
madera negra, likely a specie of ironwood, very hard indeed.
Look for it in April.
